The week we shipped nothing

Nineteen orders were packed and not one went out. The transit city sat above thirty degrees for four days and the overnight service does not hold boxes in a cooled room.
We wrote to everyone the day before, not the day of. Half replied to say thank you and a few asked to cancel, which is fair — a reserved animal you cannot receive is not much use.
The alternative was to ship anyway and quote the DOA policy afterwards. That policy exists for the times we get it wrong, not as a budget for shipping into a heatwave.
