Frag
A piece cut from a larger colony, grown on until it can stand alone.
Short for fragment. Cutting is how corals are propagated in captivity; a frag that has encrusted onto its plug is a coral that has accepted the move, which is why we do not list one before it has.
Cutting sounds violent and is not: a coral is a colony of animals, and a cut piece is a colony that has been divided rather than an animal that has been injured. Done in season, the mother colony closes the wound in days and often grows faster afterwards.
